About Us |
|
Hook Scout Group is a sponsored open Group which means we are sponsored by St. John’s Church in Hook but we are open to anyone in the age range for each section. Adults are welcome to join us from the age of 18 and there is no upper age limit as long as you can fulfil the requirements for the role.
Beavers can join from the age of 6 until they reach their 8th birthday and they then move on to the next section which are Cub Scouts and they are from 8 until around the 10,1/2 and they move on to Scouts, they are from 10.1/2 to 14 and at 14 they move into a District lead section called Explorer Scouts.
Times and days of meetings will be given once the application form pack has been returned completed, this is for the safety of the young people. Subscriptions are paid by the term and at the moment are £30.00, the term is the same as the current school terms. We also have a gift aid system in operation for all tax payers, you fill in a very simple form and this allows us to claim back from the government 28% of the amount you pay in subscriptions.
We are very lucky in Hook as we have the Bramshill Scout Shop that operates out of our HQ and you will be able to buy your complete uniform from there. Your Section Leader will give you all the details and when they need to obtain their uniform.
Each section will send out information on activities that will be happening in their section they normally will use letters but they may send home verbal messages as well so please check with your youth member to see if they have any. Group events will be sent out centrally to everyone that needs to know and we request that they are answered by the date requested, we will not normally be able to except late bookings so if you don’t want an upset child make sure that you return those forms on time. All activities will require full payment at the time of booking and there is no refunds given for non attendance as costs will already have been incurred and we have no resources to pay these by other means.
Your Section Leader will look forward to meeting you and working together to make your child stay with us enjoyable and fun. We as a Group have a zero tolerance on all types of bullying and will ask you to remove your child if it is proven that they are involved in any way. Also our Leaders are all volunteers and put a vast amount of time and effort into making the programme as interesting as possible, we expect our Leaders to be treated with respect by both the youth member and its parents, if this is not adhered too, your youth member will be removed from the Group. We also ask you to remember that they have lives outside Scouting and would ask you to respect their own time and not to call at unsocial hours and if at all possible not to call at weekends as this is their family time.
If you would like to talk to your Section Leader then normally at the end of the meeting, as they will be thinking of what they are going to be doing at their meeting at the start, if you wish to talk about any challenges that you or your child might have please discuss these without your youth member being present, as this will stop any other problems occurring from this meeting. In all cases you should talk to your Section Leader if you feel that they have not answered your question or are involved in any way then please contact the Group Scout Leader (GSL) who is responsibly for everything that happens within the Group and he will make any final decision that is required.
We are as a Group a very friendly collection of people who have one thing in common is to help your child receive the best Scouting that is available, if you would or can help in any way we would welcome you to join us, we are not a closed shop, we will endeavour to make everyone feel part of the Group, why not make your self known and you to could have the enjoyment we have in Scouting. |
